Inside The Brotherhood

Basic Philosophies

The knife is a tool and is neither good nor bad. (In the hands of a good person a tool is inherits a good descriptor and in the hands of a bad person an evil one.)

It is possible to judge the character of a person by how they treat their friends.

Family is a core principle of joy.

Everyone is family under the right circumstances.

General Rules of the BLK

  1. A knife should always be carried.
  2. One should not flaunt possession of a knife.
  3. A knife is a tool, not a weapon.
  4. A knife may never be used to harm another, unless it is for personal protection, as defined by local laws.

Things We Learn from Knives

  • Sharper is safer.

  • It is better to be small and useful, than big, showy, and useless.

  • Many small knives are more dangerous than a one single large knife.

  • The point is the congruence of a a keen edge and a strong support structure.

  • You never really bond with someone (or something) until they bleed on you. (The BLK does not engage in any kind of blood sacrifice or blood letting ritual. One has to realize that if you carry a knife you accept the risk that you might be cut. Many people feel closer to a knife that has wounded them. The shedding of blood has often been a symbol of bonding.)

  • Read instruction carefully.

  • When you're in over the hilt, you're in too deep.
